B07.06. If I am admitted as an international student and obtain equality status under a Treaty, do I keep the status of international student?
Last Updated 9 months ago

Students who are admitted to higher education through the special admissions contest for international students maintain their quality of international student until the end of the study cycle in which they enrol or the course they change to within the same study cycle, even if they are granted the status of equal rights and duties under the terms of an international treaty signed between the Portuguese state and the State of which they are from.

The exception: in case of international students who acquire the nationality of a Member State of the European Union, the international student status ceases in effect in the academic year following the date of acquisition of nationality.

If student has already obtained the status of equal rights and duties before January 1st of the year in which student want to apply for admission, he/she will not be able to apply to the special admissions contest for international students, as he/she does not have the status of international student, so the candidate should apply through the admission contests for national students.
