L1.11. Which documents are needed for the recognition of a foreign qualifications?

i) Documentation to submit for automatic recognition:

In accordance with Article 4 (2) of Decree-Law 66/2018, you must provide a document that clearly states that the degree or diploma has been awarded to you, namely one of the following:
  • Copy of the Diploma or document issued by the foreign higher education institution proving that you are the holder of the degree or diploma for which recognition is required, certified by the competent authorities;
  • Simple copy of a document issued by the foreign higher education institution that contains a degree or diploma registration number, in the case of foreign higher education institutions that have centralized registries that can be consulted through a unique identifier;
  • Diploma or certificate issued by the foreign higher education institution, in original version, proving the ownership of the degree or diploma for which recognition is required.
If beyond recognition you also want the Conversion of the Final Rating to the Portuguese Scale you must also present:
  • Document issued by the foreign higher education institution indicating the final grade given to the academic degree or diploma for which recognition is required.
If the degree you want to recognize is a Master or Doctor degree, you must also submit:
  • For a master-level degree, a digital or digitized copy of the defended dissertation or project work, or internship report;
  • For a doctoral degree, a digital or digitized copy of the thesis defended, except when it has been replaced by other research, works or artistic achievements, in which case the appropriate elements in digital form or digitized must be submitted to explain the content of the research carried out and the reasons that explain the process of design and elaboration, the research capacity, and the framing of the research in the evolution of knowledge in the field to which it belongs.

ii) Documentation to submit for level recognition:

In accordance with Article 4 (2) of Decree-Law 66/2018, you must provide a document that clearly states that the degree or diploma has been awarded to you, namely one of the following:
  • Copy of the Diploma or document issued by the foreign higher education institution proving that you are the holder of the degree or diploma for which recognition is required, certified by the competent authorities;
  • Simple copy of a document issued by the foreign higher education institution that contains a degree or diploma registration number, in the case of foreign higher education institutions that have centralized registries that can be consulted through a unique identifier;
  • Diploma or certificate issued by the foreign higher education institution, in original version, proving the ownership of the degree or diploma for which recognition is required.
You must also provide the following specific documentation:
  • Document issued by the foreign higher education institution that contains the curricular units in which you obtained approval, which led you to obtain of the degree or diploma to which recognition is sought;
  • Syllabus of all curricular units attended in the course of the study cycle;
  • Document issued by the foreign higher education institution stating the duration of the study cycle leading to the degree.
If beyond recognition you want the Conversion of the Final Rating to the Portuguese Scale you must also present:
  • Document issued by the foreign higher education institution indicating the final grade given to the academic degree or diploma for which recognition is required.
If the degree you want to recognize is a Master or Doctor degree, you must also submit:
  • For a master-level degree, a digital or digitized copy of the defended dissertation or project work, or internship report;

In accordance with Article 4 (2) of Decree-Law 66/2018, you must provide a document that clearly states that the degree or diploma has been awarded, namely one of the following:
  • Copy of the Diploma or document issued by the foreign higher education institution proving that you are the holder of the degree or diploma for which recognition is required, certified by the competent authorities;
  • Simple copy of a document issued by the foreign higher education institution that contains a degree or diploma registration number, in the case of foreign higher education institutions that have centralized registries that can be consulted through a unique identifier;
  • Diploma or certificate issued by the foreign higher education institution, in original version, proving the ownership of the degree or diploma for which recognition is required.
